Mount Vinson – highest mountain in the Antarctic – 4,897 m
The Antarctic is the coldest, windiest and most isolated continent in the world. Containing nearly 90% of the world´s ice, it was the coldest temperature ever measured on this planet with -89° C.
The mountain and the whole massif were named after the US Senator Carl Vinson, who supported the exploration of the Antarctic.
