Mount McKinley – highest peak in North – America – 6,195 m
Named after the 25th president of the United States, William McKinley, the mountain is often considered as the coldest one on earth. Due to its geographical location (only 60 km away from the arctic circle), the peak is exposed to heavy jetstreams. While the native Americans called the mountain “Denali” and the name is also frequently used in general linguistics, those in German-speaking regions still use the name “McKinley”.
On a distance of less than 50 km, Mount McKinley towers up from the tundra. This vertical height is only surpassed by the Nanga Parbar in the Himalaya.
