The doublesummit of the Elbrus is an extincted and glaciated volcano, situated only 11 km away from the caucasian main ridge and therefore counted to Europe. In the summit area, surrounded by more than 70 glaciers, sudden changes of the weather happen quite often. Therefore, the Elbrus is also called “little arctic” by the natives.
